Mosquito Magnet is the most widespread carbon dioxide mosquito trap in the world. The two models available, Pioneer and Executive, differ first of all for the wired or wireless power supply. The model that we will compare with the Mosquitaire is the Mosquito Magnet Pioneer which uses a gas cylinder to operate, must be connected to electricity and has various attractive substances.

Mosquitaire is a specific mosquito trap for tiger mosquitoes that works with electricity. It can be equipped with a kit to connect it to a cylinder for the emission of carbon dioxide and also in this case essences appreciated by mosquitoes are used to increase effectiveness. Mosquito Magnet uses 10 kg propane gas cylinders, which are extremely popular and easy to find everywhere. These cylinders are rented with returnable vacuum once empty. Each cylinder lasts 3 weeks of continuous use.

A peculiarity of Mosquito Magnet is that the carbon dioxide produced is heated before emission, in this way Mosquito Magnet best simulates the presence of a large mammal (or a group of people who sweat) in order to attract mosquitoes with greater effectiveness.

Mosquitaire uses 10 kg carbon dioxide cylinders. These bottles are not easy to find. It is not possible to rent them, they must be purchased at an indicative cost of 170/190 euros. Once exhausted they must obviously be recharged. On the Mosquitaire, the emission of carbon dioxide can be regulated in two ways: by means of a pressure gauge or by means of a timer (optional) which determines the time slots in which the gas is emitted. The duration of the cylinder depends on these two factors and can vary from approximately 3 to 8 weeks. The carbon dioxide emitted is not heated.

Essences appreciated by mosquitoes

All mosquito traps use specific essences to increase the attracting effect. In comparison it does not matter much as these essences can be used as needed and are also interchangeable. We have often used those for Mosquitaire with Mosquito Magnet and vice versa, depending on availability and the insects present. So for comparison purposes this point is negligible.

Conclusions

Mosquito Magnet has a much wider declared range than Mosquitaire. Therefore it is recommended for large spaces, especially in the cordless version. Mosquito Magnet also emits heated carbon dioxide and is effective against all mosquito species.

Mosquitaire is specifically designed against tiger mosquitoes. The possibility of being able to connect several traps in series in order to create perimeter defenses with a single power supply and a single cylinder is interesting. It is a useful configuration to be positioned, for example, to defend a veranda or the dehors of bars and restaurants.
